Area of Research

Our lab is an interdisciplinary environment focusing on the nature of the nervous system and the spine using mathematics, physics, computer science, engineering, molecular biology, and genetics fundamentals. One of our aims is to monitor the biological systems in higher resolution. We are developing new computational models to analyze the high-dimensional and sparse single-cell omics data. Our other aim is to understand the underlying causes of the idiopathic, congenital and degenerative spine problems, find possible mechanisms to prevent the disease, and restore the original spinal health. We are using zebrafish, one of the widely used model organisms, to achieve this aim. We monitor the phenotype and do perturbation and rescue analysis on the potential disease candidates using imaging, transgenesis, and CRISPR-Cas methods.
